Bars & Clubs should display signs when they have a Late Night Surcharge

Bars & Clubs should display signs when they have a Late Night Surcharge
The issue
Sign the petition for transparency: Demand Universal Hotels-owned bars, including The Oxford Hotel and others in Sydney, to prominently display Late Night Surcharge signs.
The Oxford Hotel currently charges an 8% surcharge on all purchases made after 10pm without any signage.
As it stands, customers are not provided with drink prices until they place an order and are presented with an EFTPOS machine. This lack of information leads to two main issues that need to be addressed:
1) Uncertainty about the accuracy of charged prices: Without knowing the individual costs of each drink, customers are unable to verify whether the charged price has been accurately calculated. This lack of transparency erodes consumer trust and confidence.
2) Lack of awareness regarding additional fees: Customers are not informed about any additional fees included in the final price.
To address these concerns, we propose a campaign for honesty and transparency in pricing. Our goal is not simply to avoid surcharges, but rather to provide consumers with the necessary information to make informed decisions.
I have been in communication with Universal Hotels regarding this matter, and their response, "You're aware of the surcharge now. How is a sign going to change your life?" fails to acknowledge the importance of transparency in customer transactions.
By implementing a prominent sign at each bar, we can achieve several benefits:
1) Educate new and regular visitors: A sign will inform customers about the existence of a surcharge. This empowers them to make informed decisions.
2) Regular updates: If Universal Hotels decides to increase the Late Night Surcharge in the future, a sign will necessitate an update. This ensures that customers are always aware of the current surcharge rate.
The Oxford Hotel is owned by Universal Hotels, which owns these bars around Sydney:
Bar Macau, Sydney CBD.
Civic Hotel, Sydney CBD.
Hotel Downing, Sydney CBD.
Mim by 1821, Sydney CBD.
V Bar, Sydney CBD.
Bat and Ball, Redfern.
Tudor Hall Hotel, Redfern.
Crown Hotel, Surry Hills.
The Riley, Darlinghurst.
Oxford Hotel, Darlinghurst.
Universal, Darlinghurst.
The Mill, Bondi Junction.
Tempe Hotel, Tempe.
Newtown Hotel, Newtown.
We kindly request your support by signing this petition. Together, we can demand that all bars owned by Universal Hotels, which impose a Late Night Surcharge, prominently display a sign to inform their customers about the surcharge and any additional fees. Let's work towards a fair and transparent consumer experience in Sydney's vibrant nightlife.
