Help BridgeAnne d’Avignon Meet with Barack Obama
The Issue
In the United States, we need individuals who think outside the box to solve real-world problems to ensure the future of our country. I believe that the best way to nurture and help produce these types of individuals is by reevaluating how society views and interacts with those who show signs of great intellectual ability and/or leadership skills and taking steps to help redefine preconceived notions of what it means to be successful and popular. By failing to recognize children who have the abilities to contribute meaningful and long-lasting contributions to our society as a whole, we stunt our ability to help rebuild a nation that is struggling to stay afloat.
Enter 12-year-old BridgeAnne d’Avignon. I must admit, I simply read a blog and accompanying video about this child, but I was very impressed by her commitment to her most recent project, as well as her dream of receiving recognition for it.
BridgeAnne d’Avignon was able to trace almost every single United States President to King John of England through intense research and an inquisitive mind, connections that historians have failed to make for hundreds of years. By tracing female lineage as well as male lineage, BridgeAnne d’Avignon was able to show that even our most recent president, Barack Obama, has ties to King John of England.
Why is this an amazing achievement? Because of the amount of hard work, dedication, and intellectual ability needed to accomplish such a goal, and the fact that no historian was able to do so previously. BridgeAnne d’Avignon, at 12 years old, was able to take a simple school project and turn it into something more. She may only be 12, but I see big things from this kid.
What is she looking for as an award? To meet with President Barack Obama. Why? To explain her research and meet the leader of the free world.
I dont' think this is too much to ask, in fact, I think it is a request that further highlights this child's potential. Let's continue to nurture this child and others like her by allowing her to meet with the Barack Obama. This way, maybe some of the best and brightest coming from the U.S. will grow up and try to help us sustain this great nation, rather than leave for greener pastures.
