As residents of barangay Sapalibutad, let's take an action!
We love Sapalibutad!

Barangay Sapalibutad is a small community which has 12, 698 residents based on the 2015 census. And the name Sapalibutad originated from the word “sapa” which means creek and “libutad” which means the middle for this barangay has a creek located in the middle of it. The creek is not a new place for those who live in this barangay for some of the residents live beside it. But right now this creek is facing a huge problem which is water pollution!

 Whether you like it or not, you are also affected by this problem. Water pollution is not new to us it is a major problem that our country is facing where it is caused by dumping trash, plastics, industrial waste, toxic chemicals, oil, dead animals, residues and other things that caused harm to the bodies of water. And the creek of barangay Sapalibutad is facing that problem wherein people throw their trashes into the creek and making the creek dirty and full of clogs. The water pollution doesn’t only affect the organisms that live in the creak but as well as the people who live near it also. Water pollution harms human health by causing a lot of diseases just from the smell or drinking or touching the water of the polluted creek. It also causes flood during storms wherein because of clogs of trash, the water got stocked and instead of flowing, the water turns into the residents’ houses. As citizens, in order to stop the pollution, we need to be united and take an action regarding this problem and our barangay must provide assistance in order for us to become successful.

Well, previously our barangay council promised to clean our barangay yet this promise is not felt by the residents just like what the interview with Mrs. Calma was. Mrs. Calma is a bonafide resident of barangay Sapalibutad who lives near the creek. She said in her interview that there was a time wherein the barangay fixed the creek banks but she said that there still no action about cleaning the creek to decrease the water pollution. She said that the pollution affects their daily lives for the creek smell bad sometimes and the smell goes inside their houses. Imagine if you are in their shoes, you will also feel bad about it and will want an immediate change. Will you wait for the time that you will become affected by it before doing an action?

For this problem, the group 1 from 12- Diligence build up a petition regarding this issue. They will have a petition for the barangay to have a cleaning project on the creek to lessen the water pollution on it. This petition will, therefore, be submitted to the barangay council so the voice of the residents will be heard and will do an action regarding this problem. Even just being normal students, they have the courage and willingness to strive for a change. They give their efforts that will not only benefit themselves but also will benefit the others.
