How does palm oil cause deforestation?

           Palm oil causes deforestation, to make room for palm oil plantations, plantation owners clear forest area because most of the time it’s free or cheap and an easy target. However, there is sustainable palm oil.  The most known certification is the roundtable on sustainable palm oil (RSPO)  this certification requires that the land was cleared in 2005 or before.

Tips to avoid palm oil

-If the saturated fat is 40% or more it most likely has palm oil
-Check the ingredients in everything you eat
-Also, check soap, shampoo,conditioner, and makeup for other names for palm oil.
-Ingredients with the word 'palm' in them are palm oil or are derived from the oil palm fruit.
