Federal and State Laws must require all nursing homes and childcare facilities to have cameras. I would like for this law to be named King's Law.

The Issue

I have a 2 year old son, King Conway, who was born with Beare Stevenson Syndrome. King has been hospitalized since birth. Shortly after Kings's 1st birthday, I placed my son in a hospital based facility for infants and children who are medically fragile with chronic health problems that require 24/7 nursing care. April 20, 2015 King was found unresponsive in his crib. Per doctors orders, King was to be connected to his pulse oximeter whenever he is in the crib and/or whenever he is asleep. The orders were not followed and because of that, King had suffered from a heart attack due to his trach (tracheotomy) plugging. The pulse oximeter would have alarmed once King's O2 and heart rate would have started to drop. Dhhs has found this facility in neglect. My son now has brain injury and is no longer the little boy we once knew. King has lost majority of his vision. He suffers from seizure's and strokes, none of which he had a problem with before, prior to this incident. Neglect is all to common in facilities and nursing homes and I am fighting for the state and federal laws to make a change by installing cameras. I would like for this law to be named after my son King. This change will save so many lives. I think that to have cameras in these places, will make nurses and staff members be more aware of the decisions that they make. What happened to my little boy is something that could have easily been prevented. This has to STOP. People are dying everyday in facilities such as these due to negligence. It is not ONLY my job to be a voice for my child, but it is my duty to be that voice for every child and every elderly who cannot be a voice for themselves. Only the people that WE elect have the power to make this change. Camera's don't lie, but people do. These measures will not be an invasion of the patients privacy. It is only to be used by the administration, guardian of the patient, and for investigative purposes. King's Law.
