We, people of the United States of America, petition Charity Day of America to become an established American holiday on the month of August.

We, people of the United States of America, petition Charity Day of America to become an established American holiday on the month of August.
The Issue
Charity Day of America
What is the world’s biggest problem? Poverty! Poverty leads to the lack of education and jobs, and it leads to violence, diseases, and hunger/death within the nation and in developing countries. In a study done by UNICEF, it claims that every 4 seconds there is 1 person that dies of a hunger-related cause. This solution is not meant to save humanity once and for all from the demise of poverty and hunger, instead, this solution is meant to improve, nourish and save more lives than what we are already doing. Believe it or not, we are the number 1 country in charitable contributions. So what if we can convert this energy of giving into a holiday? Therefore, I present to you Charity Day, an official American holiday. Charity Day will mainly benefit the homeless and those who suffer of economic inefficiency in our nation, but most importantly it will benefit the destitute and the poverty-stricken in third world countries.
On this day, we will have the time to do our research and decide which non-profit organizations are right and effective. We will have the time, flexibility and motivation to decide how we want to donate as either by money, food, or clothes, or if one does not have money, we can decide to do community service/volunteering or do creative fundraisers for any institution. There won’t be any limits in how and where we can give. Also, this holiday will be broadcasted through the radio and the media, and will become a trend in our social networks as to encourage non-givers and other nations to give. According to Giving USA Foundation, in 2013 alone, there were 67 percent American households who donated, so that is 33 percent of potential American households who can start contributing. The main goal is to aggregate contributions on a single day to non-profit organizations by celebrating and by bringing a community of charity together. Therefore, more contribution can only mean more improved and saved lives around the globe. For example, in 2013 Action Against Hunger, a non-profit, aided and saved 9 million lives in 43 different countries. Now imagine if people concentrated on Charity Day this year to give or give more to this specific institution. This could only mean that Action Against Hunger will raise its funds to aid and save more individuals. We have the power to change the statistics! Instead of helping 9 million lives in a single year through Action Against Hunger we can help 10, 11 or even 18 million lives this year. Instead of being 1 person dying every 4 seconds, we can change it to every 6, 7, or 20 seconds!
You truly want to make this world a better place? It starts here and now, by petitioning and demanding this holiday to become a reality.
