In 2011 Doretta Bailey was sodomized by 3 male correctional officers in Jackson County IL jail, after having a seizure from being drugged by said correctional officers. The men were allowed to take her in a wheelchair, into a holding cell and perform violent, disturbing acts. This could have been prevented. This should have never happened. We are starting a petition in honor of Doretta, women and men like her, to hopefully eliminate all contact with opposing genders. We realize this is something that cannot be done overnight, but with your help, we are ready to climb this mountain. Medication passes, head counts, tray and commissary delivery...transport to and from court dates. Any contact at all with  female inmates should be made by a female CO. We are demanding this change. We are asking the proper officials to realize that this will provide a security. We are asking that the proper officials take into account, that these sexual assaults happen more then they should. This is the first step they need to take into gaining justice for Doretta Bailey. We are asking the officials of Jackson county to understand what this change could provide for not only inmates, but for the community in general. This is the first step in the right direction. Women and men suffer abuse in all forms while in custody and out of custody.. The message of this petition is you should feel safe if you are serving your time. The inmates should have the right to feel safe in a setting that the government controls. This petition is being made in hopes to eliminate any type of abuse but especially sexual abuse. We are starting this petition to help fix the justice system. We are starting this petition to draw attention to this issue in Jackson county il and from there working into a larger compacity. I urge you, sign this petition. Help change what should have never been. We are not starting this petition claiming all male correctional officers are bad or evil. We do believe there are many good men in that role. Unfortunately my mother n law didn't have those kind of men "guarding or protecting" her. Again I urge you, share this. Share her story. Sign.
