The Issue

Make Bannatyne Better!
Bring GPA’s Convenience store to the Bannatyne Campus

  • Students and staff at the UM Bannatyne campus currently have very few options for food, drinks, and essential supplies, often needing to walk considerable distances to find what they need.
  • The former Health Science bookstore (140 Brodie Centre) has remained vacant since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, representing a missed opportunity to better serve our campus community.
  • A convenience store, such as GPA's Convenience Store, would greatly benefit students at the Bannatyne Campus.
  • The pricing strategy of the store is also noteworthy, with competitive prices that are comparable to other stores in the area. The store also offers regular discounts and promotions, making it an affordable option for students on a tight budget.
  • It also carries international options, catering to and acknowledging the diversity of the student body.
  • All profits generated from GPA’s would be reinvested directly back into student initiatives and services. This means that every dollar spent at the convenience store would go back to students
  • Access to essential items will contribute to a healthier, more productive student and staff population.
  • Bringing UMSU’s GPA's Convenience Store to the Bannatyne Campus will improve access to basic necessities, creating a brighter, more convenient campus life for all community members!

Therefore, we, the undersigned, request that the vacant space formerly occupied by the Health Science bookstore on the University of Manitoba Bannatyne campus be transformed into a GPA's convenience store to better serve the needs of students and staff.
