Yik Yak is an app where people are allowed to anonymously make discussion threads within a 5-mile radius. It is used, in particular, by college students. This app was banned in 2017 due to bullying and relaunched in 2021 as more implications were put in place to protect the users from bullying. One of these implications included the "downvote" system. If a comment/post made on the app gets at least 5 downvotes by the users (if not already reported,) it gets taken down. However, this does not mean that dozens of users had not already seen the comment/post. The sheer amount of hate and threats that have been made on this app is inexcusable. People think that just because an app is "anonymous" then their actions won't have consequences and that it doesn't affect the well-being of another person. This is not true. This app should have never been relaunched and should be permanently banned.
