Ban whaling globally

The issue

Whales are magnificent creatures that play a crucial role in maintaining the balance of marine ecosystems, and the continued exploitation through whaling poses a significant threat to the health of our planet and the survival of the mammal. Whales contribute to the ecological balance by promoting the growth of phytoplankton, which in turn contributes to the combat of climate change by absorbing carbon dioxide. Whales also maintain health fish populations and ensure the overall health of marine habitats.

Whaling has severe environmental consequences. The process of hunting whales doesn't only disrupt the balance of the marine ecosystems but it also creates excessive waste. This waste includes toxic chemicals, which pollute the oceans. These pollutants accumulate in the amount of dead marine species, which poses a significant risk to human health through the consumption of contaminated food. Some whales are endangered and if whales become extinct the ecosystems will be unbalanced and the carbon levels will increase worsening climate change.

A global ban on whaling is imperative for the preservation of marine ecosystems, the conservation of endangered species, and the treatment of whales. By recognising their importance and protecting their habitats, we contribute to the well-being of the entire oceanic ecosystem. Sustainable alternatives like whale watching provide economic opportunities without compromising the welfare of these magnificent creatures.
