The Issue

We, the undersigned residents of Montgomery County Virginia, hereby petition the Board of Supervisors to immediately cease and further ban the practice of water fluoridation within our county. We believe that water fluoridation poses significant health risks and violates our constitutional rights rights and we urge the Board of Supervisors to take action to protect the well-being and  liberties of its citizens.

Background:

Whereas, the practice of fluoridating public water supplies has been in place in Montgomery county, Virginia for years, purportedly to promote dental health;

Whereas, recent scientific evidence and growing public concern have raised questions about the safety and effectiveness of water fluoridation, including potential health risks such as dental/skeletal fluorosis and other systemic health effects;

Whereas, the studies and evidence put forth from such esteemed scientists like Dr. George Waldbott, Dr. Phyllis Mullenix, Kaj Roholm, Floyd DeEds, Dr. Dean Burke, Dr. Yiamouyiannis, Leo Spira M.D. Ph.D, Margaret C. Smith, Philip Sadtler (Donora 1948),  author Christopher Bryson and many more have demonstrated a very valid concern over the toxicity of fluoride;

Whereas, the NTP studies conducted on fluoride as well as the 2020 Harvard metanalysis also raises concerns of cancer, rare tumors and the lowering of IQ;

Whereas, Fluoridation of public water supplies violates our constitutional rights, including those protected under the first and fourteenth amendments, by imposing involuntary mass medication upon residents without their consent or choice ; and infringes on individual liberties as residents are unable to opt-out of consuming fluoridated water even if they have objections or concerns;

Whereas, many government regulatory and health agencies have stated that fluoride is not an essential nutrient nor necessary for overall health of human body;

Whereas, residents of Montgomery County are subject to additional and often unknown exposure to fluoride through environmental sources such as The Radford Army Ammunition Plant, which engages in the practice of Open Burning of materials containing fluorinated compounds, leading to the release of airborne particulate matter and pollution into surrounding communities.

Whereas, the cumulative effect of fluoride exposure from multiple sources raises concerns about the overall health impacts on residents , particularly  vulnerable populations such as children, pregnant women and individuals with pre-existing health  conditions;

Whereas, ending water fluoridation would result in cost savings for the localities, as funds currently allocated to purchasing fluoride chemicals and maintaining fluoridation equipment could be redirected towards more effective public health initiatives;

Whereas, There are alternative methods for promoting dental health, such as fluoride toothpaste and topical fluoride treatments, that allow individuals to control their exposure, allowing access to pharmaceutical-grade fluoride;

Petition:

We, the undersigned residents of Montgomery  County, hereby petition the Board of Supervisors to:

1) Immediately cease the practice of water fluoridation within the county;

2) Direct the relevant municipal departments to take the necessary steps to cease fluoridation of the public water supply, including the discontinuation of fluoride chemical purchases and the decommissioning of fluoridation equipment;

3) Advocate for increased transparency and community involvement in decision-making processes related to industrial activities, such as open burning at RAAP, that may impact public health and environmental quality.

We believe that ending water fluoridation is essential and necessary  to safeguarding the health and rights of all residents of Montgomery county. We urge the Board of Supervisors to prioritize the well-being of its citizens and take immediate action to ban water fluoridation.
