This shouldn’t be controversial:

 

If it’s illegal to offer cash or gifts to influence votes, it should also be illegal to offer preferential treatment to entire communities.

 

Right now, under the Representation of the People Act 1983:

Bribing individual voters = election fraud ❌

Promising to reward or punish whole areas based on how they vote = still legal ✅

 

That’s a loophole.

 

“Vote for us and your area avoids X”

“Vote against us and your area gets X”

 

That’s not normal policy-making — it’s political leverage over voters.

 

We should update the law to ban collective electoral inducements: No party should be allowed to allocate public burdens or benefits based on electoral support.

 

Democracy should be: ✔ fair

✔ equal

✔ not conditional on who you vote for

 

Close the loophole.
