Ban TV and internet junk food advertising to children

The issue

The marketing of junk food to children is contributing to a youth obesity epidemic that will see many of today's generation of children and young people dying earlier than their parents.

A recent University of Sydney found that 20% of Australian children are overweight or obese by the time they start kindergarten and that the home environment was the most significant factor contributing to their weight. Half of these children eat dinner in front of the TV more than three times a week.

Studies find that industry self-regulation simply doesn't work whereas junk food advertising bans have been directly linked to lower childhood obesity rates. Consequently, over 75% of Australians support a ban on the advertising of junk food to kids.

Encourage the Government to take decisive action in eliminating one of the greatest health threats facing Australia's kids by signing this petition today!
