Ban Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream

Ban Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream
The issue
The release of Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream on 16 April 2026 has transitioned from a lighthearted life simulator into a catalyst for extreme social division, online harassment, and the promotion of biological misinformation. While gaming should be a space for relaxation and unity, this title has inadvertently weaponised identity, leading to a toxic "us vs. them" culture that is harming the gaming community at large.
While we maintain a stance of personal respect toward the LGBTQ+ community, we believe that the decision to integrate gay marriage and specific identity labels into Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream was a fundamental mistake for the franchise.
By moving away from the simple, universal mechanics of the original game, the developers have introduced 'identity politics' into a space that used to be a neutral escape. This has created several issues:
- The most damaging impact of Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is the emergence of a culture that vilifies "Ordinary" or "Traditional" gameplay. There is a large segment of the player base that wishes to create islands reflecting traditional family values, binary gender roles, and heteronormative relationships. These players are being unfairly targeted, harassed, and labeled as "homophobic" simply for exercising their choice in a sandbox game.
This creates a hostile environment where:
Respectful Choice is Punished: Players who are otherwise respectful and kind are being bullied for not "performing" inclusivity in a specific way.
False Labels are Spread: Choosing a traditional island layout is not an act of hate, yet the game’s community mechanics have turned a personal preference into a reason for public shaming.
Neutrality is Lost: A game should be a neutral canvas. By allowing this "moral policing" to happen within the community, the game has failed to protect the diversity of thought and the respect for traditional lifestyles. - Living the Dream prioritises subjective "Gender Identity" while completely erasing the fundamental importance of biological sex. The game offers options for pronouns and gender but intentionally excludes a "chromosomal sex" designation. This is a critical omission for a "life simulator" that purports to represent human life. Furthermore, the inclusion of "Mii Magic" to allow biological children for same-sex couples—rather than using an adoption mechanic—distorts basic biological reality for younger audiences and disrespects the traditional understanding of the family unit.
- True diversity involves the respectful co-existence of all viewpoints, including traditional values. Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream has shifted away from this neutral ground. By forcing an ideological framework onto the player, the game has become a tool for "woke" activism rather than a source of universal entertainment. We believe that banning this game will actually make the real world more diverse by removing a platform that rewards exclusion and spreads toxicity.
We, the undersigned, demand that Nintendo immediately delist Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream from the eShop and cease all physical distribution. We ask for a return to gaming experiences that foster genuine unity and respect biological and traditional foundations. It is time to prioritise community harmony over divisive social experimentation.
