Ban the Willow Project

Ban the Willow Project

The Issue

The Willow Master Development Plan is the largest proposed oil development project on public lands. Willow would emit more climate pollution annually than more than 99.7% of all single-point sources in the country. This project would completely encircle the Iñupiat village of Nuiqsut with oil development, increasing the health risks for the community and surrounding environment. With the concerns of the environment, climate, and Indigenous communities, it is vital that the Willow Project is declined. Over the next 30 years 239 million metric tons of carbon emissions will be added to the atmosphere with the Willow Project. Animals like the polar bear and caribou will be driven out of their natural habitats as the area that the Willow Project is a part of is bigger than the United Kingdom and Ireland put together.
