I am a student at JEC high school and have seen firsthand how the implementation of IXL has become a tremendous source of stress for many students. It has even led to episodes of frustration so intense that some students resorted to breaking school property, with several Chromebooks succumbing to such outbursts last year. The pressure and anger associated with the use of IXL forms a detrimental learning environment, which in no way aligns with the primary aim of education - fostering growth, curiosity and a thirst for knowledge. These are not isolated incidents; studies have shown that poor educational technology can lead to increased stress levels among students, negatively affecting their academic performance and overall wellbeing (Psychological Sciences - University of California). We are imploring our school's administration to reconsider its reliance on this tool, and to prioritize the mental health of its students.
