Ban the Use of iready in Educational Settings

The Issue

We start our petition with the personal story of a Change.org user who felt unfairly assessed by the educational tool called iready. After merely misclicking an answer, the system mistakenly registered it as a lack of understanding. This personal story highlights the crux of the issue with iready; it lacks human judgement and can often penalize honest mistakes. Educational tools should provide support and encouragement to learners, not make them feel belittled.

Despite its deployment across numerous U.S. schools, users have consistently reported issues with the software. In fact, District Administration Magazine found that many educators have questioned the program's effectiveness since it seemingly relies on an inflexible algorithm that does not cater for individual learner variance.

Therefore, we call on educational institutions and the regulating bodies to reflect on the appropriateness of such emotionally and cognitively impactful applications being used as educational tools. The well-being and academic growth of our learners should always be in focus.

Please, sign this petition to call for the banning of iready in educational settings, and let's strive for a more understanding, human-centered approach to education.
