Ban the use of High Fructose Corn Syrup in the US

Ban the use of High Fructose Corn Syrup in the US
The Issue
Along with glucose, fructose is one of the two major components of added sugar. Fructose is found in many foods, even in some foods labeled as “healthy”. This hidden ingredient is effecting the health, waste line and worst of all…. The future of America (our kids).
America is a fat country. It is difficult for people to make good choices when fructose is found in the majority of pre-packaged foods in the US.
Consumption of fructose was estimated to be 54.7g/day (range, 38.4–72.8) and accounted for 10.2% of total caloric intake. Consumption was highest among adolescents (12–18 years) at 72.8 g/day (12.1% of total calories).
When we allow this harmful chemical to be added to everything we have at our children's reach… how can we expect them to make better choices?
Fructose corn syrup is found in cereals, baked goods, candy, packaged sweets, bottled beverages (sodas/juices), condiments, fast foods, popsicles and ice cream, jams and jellies, breads and crackers, desserts, apple sauce and so much more.
The ability to make good healthy choices has been taken from us because we have allowed our economy to choose money in the pocket of business men/women over the health of the consumer.
The food that low income households can afford are hit the worst with fillers and fake sugars as fructoses.
This needs to change. We need to help America get healthy by removing simple ingredients that are known to cause health issues for us all.
let’s work together to make America healthy. Simple foods with real sugars and fats are what we need so our bodies know how to process them…. So our bodies CAN process them…. So we can shop at the market and not have to spend hours reading labels to avoid an ingredient that has found it’s way into everything in our food chain… even in foods labeled “healthy”.
To make HFCS, enzymes are added to corn syrup in order to convert some of the glucose to another simple sugar called fructose, also called “fruit sugar” because it occurs naturally in fruits and berries. HFCS is 'high' in fructose compared to the pure glucose that is in corn syrup.Jan 4, 2018

What chemicals are used in making high fructose corn syrup?
Several chemicals are required to make HFCS, including caustic soda, hydrochloric acid, alpha-amylase, gluco-amylase, isomerase, filter aid, powdered carbon, calcium chloride, and magnesium sulfate [11]. The caustic soda and hydrochloric acid are used throughout the milling process to adjust the pH of the product line.

The debate about high-fructose corn syrup rages on. High-fructose corn syrup is the main sweetener used in processed foods and beverages. In addition to high levels of fructose and sugar, high-fructose corn syrup is loaded with harmful chemical toxins.
According to an article written by Dr. Mark Hyman for the Huffington Post, the glucose and fructose in high-fructose corn syrup become separated in the human body. The fructose then goes straight in to the liver, causing high fat production, or lipogenesis.
This results in a condition appropriately named fatty liver, which affects 90 million Americans and leads to pre-diabetes and Type 2 diabetes. It’s no wonder why heart attacks, strokes, cancer, Type 2 diabetes and other chronic diseases have reached epidemic levels in our country.
While high-fructose corn syrup has been restricted in Europe, it hasn’t been banned. Even worse, consumption in the United States has remained steady for the past 10 years.
Why is this the case? Money. Pure and simple

In America, high-fructose corn syrup is widely used because it's so much cheaper than pure sugar. In Europe, high-fructose corn syrup is restricted to adhere to production quotas enacted in the name of economic fairness and competitiveness, not as a way to save people's lives.Mar 12, 2014

-Avoid the Hidden Dangers of High Fructose Corn Syrup
-Fat production factory for your body
Fructose was initially thought to be a better choice for diabetics due to its low glycemic index. But only your liver cells can process fructose, and that’s where the problems begin.
“Fructose goes straight to your liver and starts a fat production factory,” Dr. Hyman says. “It triggers the production of triglycerides and cholesterol.” He explains that it’s actually the sugar — not the fat — that causes the most trouble for your cholesterol.
What’s even worse, Dr. Hyman notes, is high doses of fructose “punch little holes in your intestinal lining, causing what we call a leaky gut.” He explains that this allows foreign food proteins and bacterial proteins to enter into your bloodstream, which triggers inflammation, makes you gain weight and causes type 2 diabetes.

There is so much information out there about how terrible HFCS is for us… and we have not taken the steps to remove it from our market shelves. I am asking for your help today. I’m not asking for donations, I’m asking for signatures and your help with sharing this petition.
