The Issue

Kratom, a herbal supplement derived from the leaves of the Mitragyna speciosa tree, has been increasingly linked to serious health risks and abuse potential. Despite its legal status in many US states, including Pennsylvania, it's crucial to address the growing concerns surrounding its use and availability.

Numerous studies have highlighted the dangers associated with Kratom consumption. The FDA has identified kratom as having potential for abuse, addiction, and serious health consequences, including liver damage and fatalities. The DEA has noted its significant opioid-like effects and the increasing emergency room admissions associated with its use.

Statistics reveal an alarming rise in kratom-related incidents. According to the CDC, calls to poison centers about kratom exposure surged by 52% between 2011 and 2017, and more than 90 deaths have been attributed to its use.

Many countries and several US states, such as Alabama, Arkansas, Indiana, and Vermont, have already recognized these dangers and taken action by banning its sale and use. Pennsylvania needs to join them in prioritizing public health and safety. Banning the sale of Kratom in Pennsylvania will help protect our communities from the adverse effects associated with its use.

By signing this petition, you are urging lawmakers to consider the health and safety of Pennsylvania's residents. Let's work together to safeguard our families and community by putting an end to the sale of kratom in our state. Please sign this petition to help make a difference.
