Ban the sale of fireworks for private use
Ban the sale of fireworks for private use
The Issue
As a dog owner in the UK, living with sensory issues, noise sensitivity, and severe PTSD, the distress caused by the unregulated use of fireworks is a constant, personal battle. The sound of fireworks is not simply a loud noise, but an overwhelming cacophony that triggers panic and fear. This is not just my story; countless others, including children, adults with PTSD, and the neurodivergent community, share in this distress.
The impact on animals is profound. Pets cower in fear, wildlife is displaced and confused, and the chaos is incalculable. As responsible and compassionate citizens, we must ask ourselves if these moments of amusement are worth the widespread panic inflicted on the most vulnerable.
Moreover, fireworks pose significant dangers and environmental concerns. The pollution they emit impacts air quality, and the remnants contribute to litter and pose threats to local ecosystems. These risks only escalate as bonfire night and holiday seasons approach.
My personal safety has also been compromised; the terrifying boom of fireworks has once caused me to fall out of my wheelchair from fright and as I am also blind I sit shaking in terror as to me it’s just a loud noise that I have no way of deciphering where it came from or if it’s a firework or an actual bomb. This experience underscores the urgent need to regulate firework usage to prevent further harm.
We propose that the sale of fireworks be limited to organised public displays only. These events can offer the enjoyment fireworks bring while ensuring safety measures are in place to protect individuals and the environment.
Together, we can urge local councils and the government to prioritise community well-being by supporting this initiative. By signing this petition, you are advocating for a safer, more inclusive, and environmentally-friendly approach to celebrating with fireworks.
Let’s promote change for a safer society. Please sign this petition and support the ban of private firework sales, ensuring that the joy they bring is experienced safely and sustainably by all.
