Ban the Sale and Use of Fireworks to Organised displays and events Only

The Issue

Our beloved pets look to us for their safety and well-being. However, sometimes, circumstances beyond our control lead to heartbreaking incidents. I learned this the hard way when my cat, Sully, went into shock and had a breathing attack leading to a heart attack on November 5th, 2023. As firework displays lighted up the skies, terror seized Sully. More fireworks were going off in home gardens than ever before, and he was petrified. After the fireworks ended, his small body could no longer bear the fear-induced stress. He suffered an attack, cried out in pain, and lost control of his bodily functions.

Every year, horrifying stories of scared pets emerge post-firework celebrations, revealing an increasing problem. Fireworks, though beautiful and celebratory, are distressing many animals - not only pets but wildlife too. animals, fearful of the noise, experience heart attacks and other complications due to fireworks.

Beyond the severe impact on animal life, fireworks misuse leads to injuries to humans as well as accidental fires, adding more demand on our NHS and Fire Brigade. In the UK, the National Health Service (NHS) and Fire services are already struggling with substantial challenges. Each year, the misuse of fireworks exacerbates these strains.

The time has come for us to take a stand. To prevent these avoidable tragedies, we propose a ban on selling fireworks to the public, limiting their use only to organised displays on November 5th. These displays should be conducted away from homes, at beaches or fields, ensuring minimal disturbance to domestic animals and wildlife. By doing so, we safeguard not only our beloved pets but also alleviate additional strain on our emergency services.

For the sake of our pets, our safety, and our hard-working emergency services, I urge you to sign this petition. Let's limit the sale and use of fireworks to organised events, creating a safer environment for all.
