Ban the Sale and Planting of Invasive Bradford Pear Trees in North Carolina

Ban the Sale and Planting of Invasive Bradford Pear Trees in North Carolina
The Issue
As someone deeply involved in landscaping, I've seen first-hand the destructive impact of Bradford pear trees in our amazing state of North Carolina. Despite their attractive blossoms, their scent is unbearable, causing allergy attacks for many of our locals. Their robust root system spreads rapidly, making it challenging to remove them completely - a frustrating scenario for those of us taking care of our natural environment.
Originating from Korea/China, these trees are a threat to North Carolina's unique ecosystem.
Not only are they invasive, but due to their brittle nature, Bradford Pear trees can easily split, break, and fall, leading to potential property damage and economic loss. Furthermore, they crowd out native plant species, altering the biodiversity, which can have substantial knock-on effects on wildlife that depend on indigenous plants for survival.
We should not allow a foreign tree species to wreak havoc on our beautiful landscapes and ecosystems. We owe it to our future generations, our local flora, and fauna, and our economy to preserve the biodiversity our state is known for. Please, let's implore our legislators to ban the sale, purchase from outside states, and planting of Bradford pear trees in North Carolina. Sign this petition to protect North Carolina's ecosystem now.
