I wanted to share a further update following our recent meeting with Alex Greenwich MP regarding the Ban the Hoons in Barangaroo petition.

Firstly, thank you again for your support. With more than 1,500 signatures, this represents a strong and united voice from across Barangaroo, Millers Point and Walsh Bay.
Parliamentary Acknowledgement
Importantly, the petition has now been formally acknowledged in NSW Parliament.
In Parliament, Alex Greenwich stated that more than 1,500 residents and businesses have raised concerns about persistent late-night hooning, describing it as:
“a safety risk and negatively impacts on local hospitality and tourism…
The petitioners… are ultimately seeking a good night’s sleep.”
He also acknowledged the meeting with community representatives and the presentation of the petition on behalf of residents across Barangaroo, Millers Point and Walsh Bay.

This places the issue firmly on the public record at a state level.
Latest Updates
We have also been advised that Transport for NSW has lodged a request for consideration of a speed camera on Hickson Road.
This proposal will be assessed alongside crash data and other road safety criteria to determine priority for enforcement cameras across NSW.
Further updates are expected shortly.
Positive Progress
Alex has outlined a number of actions now underway, including:
- Acknowledgement of the petition in Parliament
- Further questions to Ministers, with specific reference to Barangaroo
- Consideration of legislative changes to enable noise camera technology
- Increased police operations (already confirmed)
- Monitoring of traffic calming measures such as speed humps and signage
- Exploration of a mobile speed camera for the area
Concerns previously raised regarding high-performance vehicle activity associated with “joy ride” experiences have now been clarified.
Crown Sydney has confirmed that it does not provide sports car experiences for patrons.
Importantly, Crown has also advised that it receives complaints from hotel guests regarding hooning noise and is supportive of measures being considered to address the issue. This reinforces that the issue is affecting not only residents, but also visitors and the broader Barangaroo precinct.

To strengthen our case and accelerate action, four simple steps will make a real difference:

2. Nominate a Speed Camera Location
Residents can also nominate locations for enforcement cameras through Transport for NSW:

Submissions are considered alongside crash data and road safety information to prioritise future camera locations. Multiple submissions from the community can help reinforce the case for our area.

4. Report Hoon Activity (This is critical)
Every report helps build the evidence needed for enforcement.
Even brief reports make a difference.
Our Ongoing Focus
While this progress is encouraging, it remains early.
We have emphasised that:
- Barangaroo is the primary location where hooning activity is occurring
- Measures must directly address Barangaroo Avenue and Hickson Road
- Residents are seeking visible, on-the-ground change
Next Steps
We will continue to:
- Engage constructively with Alex and relevant authorities
- Monitor delivery of the actions outlined
- Advocate for timely and targeted outcomes for Barangaroo
A further stakeholder meeting is scheduled for June 2026, which will be an important checkpoint.
Maintaining Momentum
As I will be travelling for periods over the coming weeks, a small group of residents will assist in keeping momentum going — particularly around reporting hoon activity, growing the petition and coordinating updates.
