Shockingly, it isn't illegal to give live animals as prizes in England in 2022, as my 8-year-old daughter and I discovered today at Hayfield May Queen's fair.

Rows of goldfish in tiny polythene bags on one of the hottest days of the year so far, being given as prizes on the £4 a go hook-a-duck. 

My daughter was so upset that she took £100 of her savings and I matched this and we bought up all the fish (we haggled down from £270, as they should have gone for £4 each). 

We will likely re-home some of them, though my daughter is talking Sponge Bob themed tank accessories and has disappeared down the Pets At Home wormhole...

We spoke to many people while we carried our tubs of goldfish out of the fairground. Every person was horrified and disbelieving that this level of animal abuse, cruelty and neglect is legal in this day and age.

So we need your support to put a stop to this form of animal cruelty.
