Ban the Calcutta street scene in DC - Council Votes Tues. Dec. 2 on Streateries

Ban the Calcutta street scene in DC - Council Votes Tues. Dec. 2 on Streateries
The Issue
While many were traveling for Thanksgiving, Ward 6 Councilmember Charles Allen quietly introduced ‘emergency’ legislation to subvert new streatery rules. Allen’s ‘emergency’ bill lowers fees and allows broad exemptions to appease the restaurant lobby. It overturns 18 months of DC rulemaking, ignores community feedback, and perpetuates the unsafe, unhealthy structures that have cluttered our streetscapes for years. Commercial streets like 17th St. in Dupont Circle, 18th St. in Adams Morgan, Georgetown, are especially hard hit for parking and deliveries.
There is no emergency, only a rush to undo public input.

Stand firmly for:
- · Clear, enforceable public-space rules
- · Safeguard public health, Stop rat proliferation
- · Preserve parking and access to the curb
- · Use Sidewalks for cafes. Save Streets for traffic, not dining
- · A fair process—not back-door changes during a holiday week
DC residents deserve better than lobby-driven ‘emergencies.’
Let’s show the DC Council that residents are paying attention.
