Ban slaughtering of cows, bulls & buffaloes in India
The Issue
As per the report submitted by National Commission on Cattle dated 28th July 2002, the killing of cows in India started only after foreign invasions of Islamic invaders from Turkey, Iran (Persia), Arabia & Afghanistan. The killing of cows increased manifold with increase of British soldiers in India as they were natural beef-eaters. Whereas, the Cow is embodiment of non-violence, compassion and motherly affection for all beings, tolerance, gratitude and benevolence. In addition to providing milk there are many uses of the cattle. The National Commission on Cattle states in its said report that with the advent of cow dung and cow urine revolution for its utilization in organic manure and medicines, no cattle, howsoever ill, dry or infirm, are economically viable and self-reliant and not a burden. NGOs like krishnayan Gauraksha are successfully using cow dung to produce Bio and organic fertilizer unit to manufacture organic manure from gobar (minimising the use of chemical peticides), Bio CNG plant (converting daily 25000 kg of gobar into CNG gas and manure) and Gobar Gas Plants (which are installed along with bio gas generator to power the Gaushala and also used for cooking purposes). As per the report of National Commission on Cattle, the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides on a massive scale has not only increased the cost of production but has also poisoned our soil, water and crops and caused health hazards to our people and cattle.
It was Mahatma Gandhi ji’s desire and promise to the Nation, that when our county becomes independent, the first legislation would be prohibiting killing of cows and its progeny. Our ancient culture treats all animals as having a soul, in the same manner as human being have souls.
I have a close bond with the stray cows, bulls, and buffaloes in my community. Feeding these gentle creatures is a daily ritual, and in return, they give endless love and affection. Slaughtering such affectionate beings seems a cruel act to me, and it's a pressing issue that needs urgent attention.
As per a recent report of Ministry of Environment, there are 32,000 illegal slaughter houses in India which should be shut down immediately. The figure of slaughter of cattle is in excess of 2 crore per year on record and much more illegally.
Therefore, it is urged to ban slaughtering of cows, bulls & buffaloes in India and as an immediate measure close all the illegal slaughter houses in India.
