The Issue

My grandson loves playing Roblox, but every time he does, it leads to arguments and resentment. Roblox, a platform that should entertain and educate, has become a constant source of conflict in our household due to its heavy emphasis on in-game purchases. My grandson's feelings get hurt, and our family's financial balance is upset because of this manipulative marketing strategy. It is unjust that a game, meant for enjoyment, is a constant factor of distress and disagreement.

Roblox, a widely popular online gaming platform, is allegedly designed to entice children into incessantly bothering their parents to buy Robux, its virtual currency. According to a recent report, Roblox features over 150 million active users monthly, many of whom are children. The in-game marketplace encourages players to spend real money on virtual items, which are frequently overpriced, placing undue pressure on parents.

The manipulation is evident: children, driven by the fear of missing out and digital peer pressure, feel compelled to spend more. As a result, parents face emotional pleas and even tantrums from their kids, often leading to family stress. With Roblox generating over $920 million in revenue in 2020, it's time to reassess its impact on families across the United States.

We urge lawmakers to consider banning Roblox in the United States until the platform can adopt a more family-friendly model that prioritizes child development over profit. Our children deserve a gaming environment free from coercive tactics, one that doesn't exploit their emotional and psychological vulnerabilities for monetary gain.

Please sign this petition to call for a ban on Roblox in the United States and advocate for a healthier, more respectful interactive entertainment platform for our children.
