Ban Radar Requests from Ride Share Companies in Ontario

Ban Radar Requests from Ride Share Companies in Ontario
The Issue
Being a driver on the busy streets of Ontario is already a challenging and demanding task. I have dedicated myself to providing quality and safe transport to my passengers, but the continuous influx of radar requests from ride share companies adds an unnecessary layer of distraction, which jeopardizes both my safety and that of my passengers. Recently, my focus on the road has been compromised by constant notifications demanding immediate responses, increasing the risk of accidents.
Radar requests, typically designed to optimize ride efficiency, put drivers like myself in immediate danger. They demand quick decisions while navigating traffic, taking our attention off the road at critical moments. Statistics show that distracted driving is one of the leading causes of road accidents in Ontario, emphasizing the need to minimize all forms of distraction.
Ride share companies, including Uber and Lyft, are encouraged to implement safer measures like pre-scheduled pings or interval-based notifications that don't pressure drivers into split-second decisions. Investing in technologies and systems that enable drivers to focus primarily on safely getting from point A to point B will significantly lower the risks on the road.
Alarmingly, the continual flow of radar requests can also increase drivers' anxiety levels, as reported by various driver communities across Ontario. A survey conducted by Traffic Injury Research Foundation reveals that nearly 30% of road accidents are attributed to distracted driving, highlighting the urgency to address these concerns effectively.
To drive safer streets in Ontario and protect the well-being of all road users, ride share companies must discontinue the practice of radar requests to drivers. Let’s prioritize driver and passenger safety.
By signing this petition, you are advocating for a safer working environment for ride share drivers and a reduction in distracted driving incidents. Together, we can press ride share companies to adopt safer and more driver-friendly practices, ensuring the roads of Ontario remain secure for everyone. Please sign and share this petition.
