The Issue

As someone who is passionate about health and nutrition, I am deeply concerned that our children are not being educated properly about what they eat. It is alarming to know that processed meats, such as ham and sausages, are being served in our schools and nurseries. These meats are classified as Group 1 carcinogens by reputable health organizations, indicating that there is strong scientific evidence that they cause cancer, particularly colorectal cancer.

The World Health Organization and other health authorities have warned against the consumption of these foods, especially for young children whose bodies are still developing. Even small, regular consumption of processed meats can significantly increase the risk of cancer later in life.

Nutrition is crucial during the early years, as it sets the foundation for a lifetime of health and wellbeing. As parents, it is distressing to know that we cannot control what our children are being fed in educational institutions. Schools and nurseries should be places where the health of our children is prioritized.

Therefore, I urge the decision-makers in the educational sector to take immediate action and ban the use of processed meats in school meals. Let’s ensure our children receive meals that nourish their growing bodies and educate them on healthy eating habits. By removing these carcinogenic foods from their diet, we are taking an important step towards ensuring their future health.

This is more than just a health concern; it's about creating an environment where children can learn about and experience healthy eating habits firsthand. Let's come together to safeguard the health of our children. Please sign this petition to make a positive change in our schools and nurseries.
