Ban Polaris Slingshots and Similar Vehicles from Main Street During Bike Week

The Issue

As a passionate motorcycle enthusiast, I look forward to Bike Week in Daytona Beach, FL every year. This event is meant to celebrate motorcycles and the unique culture that surrounds them. To preserve this spirit, cars and trucks are already prohibited from driving down Main Street during Bike Week. However, there's an exception that disrupts the atmosphere - Polaris Slingshots and other similar vehicles.

These vehicles are not classified as motorcycles yet they're allowed on Main Street during Bike Week. It's time we extend the existing ban to include these vehicles too. According to Florida law, a motorcycle is defined as a vehicle powered by a motor with no more than three wheels in contact with the ground (Florida Statutes 316.003). Yet Polaris Slingshots have car-like features such as side-by-side seating and steering wheels instead of handlebars.

This discrepancy not only dilutes the essence of Bike Week but may also pose safety risks due to differences in vehicle dynamics between motorcycles and these types of vehicles.

Let us uphold what makes our beloved Bike Week special by ensuring it remains an event for true motorcycle enthusiasts. Sign this petition to ban Polaris Slingshots and similar non-motorcycle classified vehicles from Main Street during Daytona Beach's iconic Bike Week.
