This issue of knife crime is very personal to me. Even though no one in my family has been directly affected, I see the pain and suffering it causes to others in our community. Each loss, each person taken too soon, each family forever broken by the blade of a knife, deeply resonates with me. Our society's struggle with increased knife crime rates touches me to my core, as it creates a hazardous environment for our children’s upbringing.

Now, ask yourself: Have you ever actually used the pointed end of a kitchen knife or cooking knife for a legitimate purpose? I propose a seemingly simple, yet potentially impactful, change: Redesign kitchen knives and scissors to have a rounded end, but maintain a blade sharp enough for cutting and slicing.

This proposition could result in monumental changes in our society. In the United Kingdom, for instance, five people are killed every week as a result of knife crime. Could this drastic measure potentially save hundreds of lives each year? After all, safeguarding the lives of our citizens, particularly the younger generations, should be our utmost priority.

It is essential for us to make this societal change. Each of these horrifying incidents is an individual tragedy. But collectively, they're a national scandal. It's time for our Government to step up and take action on this issue.
