Beta fish life expectancy is up to 3 years, and this might leave you in shock due to the extremely poor health conditions you have seen or bought a beta fish from, causing them to only live weeks or even days with you.

Reddit user @outbackchoppedsalad claims their local pet smart has extremely terrible care for there beta fish, leaving them in poor health conditions or even death.

Despite scientific evidence that fish feel pain, many animal cruelty laws don't apply to fish. However, there are laws regarding that leaving animals with lack food and care is illegal in most states, which they do to the beta fish.

Aside from legal reasons, it is just clear cruelty to a basic human mind. I often hear “it is what it is” to these subjects, but it doesn’t have to be. We could change this.
