Parking at Eastern Michigan University is a complete disaster. On top of paying tuition, paying for school supplies and textbooks, and personal responsibilities like rent; Students should not have to pay over $200 PER SEMESTER just to be able to park on campus and attend school. Not to mention that a parking spot is not guaranteed. Parking spots are very scarce and students have to pay for parking in the $2 an hour pay lots when they can’t find a spot on top of the money they already paid for a pass. Students should be able to just park and attend their classes. And it’s not just students who are struggling with this, but the professors as well. Professors shouldn’t have to pay hundreds of dollars just so they can come to work and have a place to park. Parking at EMU has always been expensive and is getting worse every year. The prices went from around $174 to now $206 in the span of about 5 years. Students and Professors should get free parking passes that also work in the pay lots, or passes that are no more than $20. Making this change will relieve a lot of stress and make the experience of going to EMU a lot better.
