Paraquat is a highly toxic herbicide that is used in agriculture to control weeds and grass. Paraquat is extremely toxic and if ingested can cause adverse reactions and in extreme cases, death. Paraquat is one of only two pesticides that are still in use the United States that is either banned or being phased out in the European Union, China, and Brazil. Despite its restricted use in the United States, the American Association of Poison Control Centers still reported 50 deaths due to paraquat in 2013.
