Ban ownership of pit bulls without special license and bond
Ban ownership of pit bulls without special license and bond
The Issue

This beautiful family was destroyed by their own family pets…two pit bull dogs. . The couple, the Bernard’s, raised the dogs like children for eight years. In October 2022, the dogs, for no known reason, turned on the family, slaughtering the two young children in this photo and critically injuring the mother. The family had been very vocal in support of their dogs and the Pit bull breed in social media prior to this attack. Nobody thinks it will happen to them. These people did nothing wrong other than trust their family pets. I have seen too many stories of dangerous dogs slaughtering their own owners and neighbors. It is too much. These dogs are crowding shelters and costing taxpayers a fortune. There needs to be a law to make the owners of these dogs responsible for protecting the public.
Every year, thousands of innocent lives are tragically affected by attacks from dangerous dog breeds, such as pit bulls. Pit bulls, in particular, have been involved in numerous reports of fatal attacks and serious injuries. The emotional and physical scars left by such attacks are devastating, not just for the victims, but for entire communities. Families live in fear, and shelters become overwhelmed trying to manage the influx of these high-risk animals.
A comprehensive policy requiring owners of pit bulls and other dangerous breeds to acquire a special license and maintain a minimum $1 million bond per dog can greatly mitigate these risks. Such a regulation would ensure only those truly capable and committed to handling such breeds are permitted to own them.
Statistics indicate that pit bulls are responsible for a disproportionate number of dog attacks. According to a study by DogsBite.org, pit bulls were responsible for 66% of dog-related fatalities in 2020, despite comprising only 6% of the total US dog population. This stark reality underscores the need for immediate action to protect public welfare.
Implementing a licensing and bonding requirement would encourage responsible ownership and provide crucial funds for any damage caused by these animals. It would effectively reduce the number of unqualified owners, therefore reducing incidents of attacks.
Let's take a proactive stance in our community. Let's protect our families, and our neighbors, and relieve some of the burdens on public resources. By signing this petition, you can help put pressure on our legislators to enact a law that will safeguard our communities by ensuring only responsible individuals are allowed to own potentially dangerous dogs.
Join us in advocating for safer neighborhoods. Sign the petition today and let's drive the change needed to protect everyone in our community.
