The Issue

Roblox, a popular online gaming platform, has millions of young users in India. While it appears to be a creative and social gaming space, serious concerns have been raised about child safety, inappropriate content, and online exploitation on the platform.

As concerned parents, educators, and citizens, we are calling on the Government of India, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), and the Ministry of Women and Child Development to block or place strict restrictions on the Roblox platform until proper safety and content regulations are enforced.

Reasons for This Petition:

Exposure to Inappropriate Content:
Despite being marketed as a child-friendly platform, many Roblox games and chat rooms contain sexually suggestive or violent content accessible to minors.
Online Predators and Exploitation Risks:
Multiple international reports have documented cases of grooming, exploitation, and inappropriate contact between adults and minors on Roblox.
Addiction and Mental Health Concerns:
Children spend excessive hours on the platform, affecting their studies, sleep, and social development.
Inadequate Parental Controls:
The safety and privacy settings are complicated and often ineffective in preventing exposure to harmful material.
Data Privacy Issues:
Roblox collects and stores large amounts of user data, raising privacy concerns under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDP Act, 2023).

Our Demands:

We urge the Government of India to:

Investigate Roblox’s content moderation and child safety practices in India.
Temporarily block or restrict Roblox until compliance with Indian child protection laws is ensured.
Implement stricter age verification systems and enforce local regulations for online gaming.
Promote awareness among parents and schools about the potential risks associated with the platform.
