BAN ON PUPPY FARMS QUEENSLAND WIDE IMMEDIATELY

BAN ON PUPPY FARMS QUEENSLAND WIDE IMMEDIATELY
The issue
This petition, submitted by residents of Queensland, aims to draw the attention of the House to the suffering of dogs in commercial breeding facilities, commonly known as "puppy farms," across the state. Puppy farming involves the commodification and exploitation of "man's best friend" for profit and is inconsistent with community values. It is an outdated and cruel practice that has no place in Queensland.
Petitioners highlight numerous issues associated with puppy farming, including reports of dogs being confined without adequate bedding, lacking necessary veterinary care, and being deprived of their basic needs. Female dogs are often kept in a constant state of pregnancy, and animals are bred for aesthetic purposes without consideration for their health and well-being.
Petitioners also emphasize the cages in which these animals are kept 24/7, malnourished, compelled to lie in their own excrement and developing harmful health and mental conditions.
Additionally, petitioners draw attention to the tens of thousands of healthy dogs euthanized in Australia each year due to oversupply, of which puppy farms are a significant contributor. These farms profit while placing an undue burden on our community, animal shelters, and rescue groups. Given the number of healthy dogs being euthanized annually, there is no justification for the existence of puppy farms in Queensland.
The Queensland community demands that the House take action to protect the vulnerable victims of puppy farming by abolishing the practice. Therefore, petitioners request that the House immediately ban puppy farming in Queensland and ensure that all dogs currently in the industry are adopted out.
