Ban Nissan Kicks from the Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) list of DOE Philippines!

The Issue

Sign this petition to help get the Nissan Kicks moved to the HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle) list and OFF the BEV list.  Help save our planet from the effects of global warming caused in part by CO2 emissions from fossil fuel burning vehicles like the Kicks.  Help stop legacy auto manufacturers and big oil companies from slowing the transition to electric mobility and energy security.

Nissan is spreading disinformation and propaganda to greenwash their “Kicks” hybrid electric vehicle (HEV).  They have conspired with the Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP) to persuade the Department of Energy (DOE) to falsely categorise the “Kicks” as a Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV).  The Kicks is powered 100% by gasoline and a gasoline powered generator is the only source of electrical energy for the vehicle.  It CANNOT be plugged in to charge.  It is technically described by Nissan themselves as a “Series Hybrid Electric Vehicle”.

Nissan is falsely promoting the Kicks as a BEV to get benefits which are supposed to be reserved exclusively for real, pure Battery Electric Vehicles and PHEVs.  They are tricking consumers into thinking they’re buying a BEV.  They showcased it at the 2023 Plug-in Electric Vehicle Summit (PEVS), an EVAP event, even though it cannot be plugged-in.

Nissan, DOE, and EVAP are complicit in misleading Filipinos into thinking that the Kicks is a BEV by deliberately mis-classifying it on the official list of recognised BEVs.  This undermines the integrity of the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act (EVIDA) and slows the country’s transition to e-mobility, fossil fuel elimination, and energy security.  This compromises the credibility and integrity of the DOE and EVAP.  The government’s official list of Battery Electric Vehicles is wrong and cannot be trusted.

I pointed out the mistake to the DOE in October and they moved the kicks to the HEV list where it belongs.  Nissan and EVAP then called a meeting with DOE in December and persuaded them to put it back on the BEV list.
