Moore Reserve is a treasured community space in Hurstville Grove, but reckless use of modified e-bikes, petrol motor driven bicycles, e-scooters and motor bikes are undermining its safety, tranquillity and natural environment. These vehicles are being ridden at high speed on walking paths, putting pedestrians—particularly seniors, young children and people walking dogs—at risk. This dangerous riding has prompted calls and reports to police.

These illegal vehicles are also being ridden across grassed areas, tearing up the grass and damaging vegetation and wildlife habitat. Riders have also been abusive and threatening, leaving community members feeling unsafe and vulnerable. This behaviour presents very poor role modelling for young children who visit the reserve. Illegal vehicles and their riders also threaten local wildlife: fast, noisy riding can frighten animals, disrupt feeding and nesting, force them from shelter, and increase the risk of collisions and injury.

We are calling on local authorities to ban all modified e-bikes, petrol motor driven bicycles, e-scooters and motor bikes  from Moore Reserve. Clear signage and consistent enforcement is required.  These measures will protect environmentally sensitive areas, visitors, wildlife, dogs and the reserve itself.
