My son and nephew were unprovokedly attacked at the Dunfermline bus station, an incident that has left us shaken and concerned for the safety of others. Although the main perpetrator was arrested and charged, the fact that he's only 17 means the repercussions are minimal. The situation escalated further when, the following night, a group of about 30 carried out more assaults on innocent bystanders, leading to only one arrest. Such violence makes it frightening for everyone, particularly the elderly, who simply want to get home safely.

Dunfermline bus station has become an unsafe environment during weekends, particularly after 7pm, due to these ongoing disturbances. We must take decisive action to restore peace and ensure the safety of all. A practical approach to address this situation is to implement a ban on all individuals under 18 from accessing Dunfermline bus station after 7pm on weekends.

Additionally, to deter future incidents, we propose that any young person arrested for fighting or breach of the peace should have their bus pass revoked without the possibility of reinstatement. This measure will not only serve as a strong deterrent against such behaviour but also help maintain public order.

The evidence of violence and disorder is undeniable, and the current number of arrests does not reflect the seriousness of the incidents occurring at the station. Statistics show that minor offenders are often repeat offenders, and a stronger response is required to safeguard our community and prevent further assaults.

Together, we can work towards ensuring that Dunfermline's transportation hubs are safer for everyone. This is a necessary step to protect our loved ones and to restore the sense of security that should never be compromised.
