The Issue

As a concerned parent in Texas, I am deeply troubled by the current practices employed by LifeTouch Photography, which handles school pictures and yearbooks. Our children's photographs, meant to capture fleeting educational milestones, are being mishandled and potentially exposed to privacy risks. It is alarming to realize that images of our children are being shared and accessible by third-party entities without any real oversight or secured privacy protocols.

LifeTouch is owned by Shutterfly, Shutterfly was acquired by Apollo Global Management in 2019. Leon Black who is the former chairman for Apollo Global Management is mentioned multiple times in the Epstein files. This should raise concerns and questions to how our children’s photos and data is being shared.

LifeTouch Photography, a prominent school photographer, has been a participant in the educational landscape for years. Yet, the practices surrounding the handling and distribution of these personal images lack the transparency and security that parents deserve. The risks associated with digital media storage and sharing have grown exponentially, with potential repercussions of data breaches that could transform treasured memories into unsolicited public exposure or even risk our children's safety.

Several parents, like myself, have voiced concerns, only to be met with blanket assurances rather than actual policy changes. The right to safeguard our children’s images should be paramount and immediate action is necessary to enforce stringent privacy measures.

Therefore, we are calling upon school districts across Texas to cease partnerships with LifeTouch Photography until stringent data privacy measures are established, and to seek local photography alternatives that prioritize protecting our children's privacy. Such measures should include encrypted storage solutions, limited access protocols, and a clear opt-in policy for parents before any distribution of images.

By signing this petition, you can stand with us in demanding a safer approach to handling school photographs. Let's ensure that our children’s memories remain theirs, secure from unauthorized access and distribution. Your signature is a step towards safeguarding our children’s privacy in schools across Texas. Please sign this petition and make your voice heard.
