Ban Junk Food Adverts on all Surrey County Council owned spaces

Ban Junk Food Adverts on all Surrey County Council owned spaces
The Issue
Since I was 14, l've been on a mission to stop the pervasive reach of junk food advertising, particularly throughout Surrey. It's alarming how much junk food advertisements inundate our daily lives. They're unavoidable filling our high streets, plastered on bus stops, looming large on billboards by the station, or gracing posters near the library. These adverts are not just mere distractions; they are calculated attempts by junk food giants to target young people, promoting unhealthy choices that can contribute to a lifetime of health problems.
In Surrey, where council-owned spaces are prevalent, the power to change this lies with our local authorities. They have the ability to protect us, especially the youth, from being bombarded with unhealthy food promotions that can negatively impact our health and well-being.
Other councils across the UK have already taken the vital step to restrict junk food advertising within their jurisdiction. London's Transport for London (TfL) network, for example, introduced a ban on junk food advertisements, resulting in an encouraging ripple effect of healthier environmental influences. Kingston Council also being another, banning junk food ads on their high-streets. A move in the right direction!
This is an urgent call to action for Surrey County Council to follow suit and ban junk food advertisements from all council-owned areas, including parks, bus stops, libraries, and other public domains. This measure will not only reduce the overwhelming presence of unhealthy food promotions but will also promote the well-being of our communities, especially the younger generation who are most susceptible.
Stand with us in this fight against the deceit and ignorance of junk food corporations. Let's push for Surrey to be a pioneer in fostering a healthier environment for all. Sign this petition to urge Surrey County Council to implement this crucial ban on junk food advertising in all council-owned spaces.
