The Issue

IXL Learning claims to provide a beneficial learning platform for students, intending to enhance educational experiences. Unfortunately, for many students like myself and my friends, it has become a source of relentless stress and anxiety. Instead of making education engaging and rewarding, IXL turns it into a grueling experience, demanding countless hours on frustrating exercises that yield little value and rob us of our time and peace of mind.

Furthermore, IXL promotes itself with a clever play on words, "I Excel", which is both ironic and misleading. The platform indeed fails to allow students to excel, as its practices are often rigid and unforgiving, counting off points for each wrong answer and forcing users to work harder for arbitrary scores rather than true understanding. This approach not only breaks students' confidence but also discourages any genuine interest in learning.

On top of that, my personal experience with IXL has been nothing short of disastrous. Due to its high demands and incompatibility issues, I have had to replace my Chromebook four times. Being a student with ADHD, ADD, and ODD, the user experience with IXL has exacerbated my condition, leading to heightened stress levels and moments of utter frustration.

According to research, educational software should be inclusive and considerate of a diverse range of learning abilities and needs. Tech industry critics often highlight that products like IXL can create unnecessary barriers to successful learning, especially for students with neurodiverse challenges. Instead of aiding educational progress, such platforms can potentially hinder it.

It is crucial that we prioritize the well-being and mental health of our students over rigid, impersonal educational technology. We urge educators, school administrators, and policymakers to reconsider the use of IXL and explore alternative learning resources that truly cater to all students' needs. By doing so, we can foster a healthier, more encouraging educational environment for students to thrive.

Please join us in making a stand against the continued use of IXL in schools. Sign this petition to protect students from anxiety-inducing educational tools and advocate for meaningful reform in our educational systems.
