Ban IXL

Ban IXL
The Issue
IXL is used in schools all around the world. It promises independent learning, mastery of skills, excitement for learning, and accessibility to all students. However, it fails in all of those aspects.
The way it works is for each skill you have a "SmartScore" that goes up when you answer a question right. For 0-70, you get big increases in the score for getting something right and small penalties for getting something wrong. For 80-89, however, a correct answer gets you 2-3 points and a wrong answer subtracts 7-15 points. At 90-100, the "challenge zone", a right answer gives 1 point and a wrong one can subtract 20. This means you can have a perfect streak but the second you get one or two wrong you can go right back where you started. Sometimes the answers are the exact same, just formatted slightly different. For example, $1.9 and $1.90
This means that what should be 15 minute homework can take hours to complete. The majority of reviews for IXL are only 1 star and no one with power seems to care, probably because it lets teachers not have to put work into grading individual assignments.
IXL is so bad that there are numerous reports of students having mental health problems, such as depression and anxiety, by being forced to do it daily. It claims to be accessible to all students but there are thousands of reports of students with autism and ADHD never completing it. Students with dyslexia usually can't do it at all and need their parents to do all of it. When you get a question wrong, it gives an explanation as to how to do it. However, it is usually very confusing and wordy, to the point where teachers have trouble understanding it. It also takes students' information and monetizes it
Sign this petition so schools get rid of IXL once and for all.
