Ban I Ready because it collects data from children

The Issue

I've always had to follow strict rules at home, especially when it comes to digital privacy. My parents insist on scrutinizing every app or game I want to play, with a cardinal rule that no app should collect my data. It's something that's always been non-negotiable. However, I noticed a glaring exception in their enforcement: I Ready. Despite their general caution about digital footprints, they haven't taken the same stance with this platform, which we've been using at school.

I Ready, an online educational platform, has become a staple in many educational curriculums across the United States, touted for its personalized learning experiences. However, beneath its educational facade lies a concerning issue: it collects data from its young users, our children, me included. According to privacy advocacy groups and reports, student data is often harvested, raising concerns about how this information is stored, protected, and potentially shared with third parties.

While I understand the potential benefits of personalized learning, the data collection practices raise significant privacy concerns. Children are vulnerable, and their data should be fiercely protected. Allowing such practices sets a precedent that our children's personal information is a tradeable commodity, and that should never be the case.

The issue is not just about one family or one child, but about the privacy and security of millions of students across the nation. If parents like mine were fully aware of the extent and nature of data collection by I Ready, many would likely be as concerned as they are with games that hardly ever touch the sensitive realm of personal data.

Therefore, I am calling on educational institutions, lawmakers, and digital privacy advocates to put an end to these invasive practices. We need stricter regulations and transparency from educational platforms like I Ready to ensure the privacy of students is not compromised. Further, education boards should consider alternatives that genuinely protect students' personal information while offering quality educational content.

Join me in demanding a safer digital learning environment for students by signing this petition. Let's push for necessary reforms to protect students' privacy and ensure that education and privacy do not have to be mutually exclusive pursuits. Please sign to make a change for the betterment of all students using I Ready and similar platforms.
