🐴 Why Blackpool’s Horse-Drawn Carriages Must Be Banned

Every day on Blackpool’s busy streets, horses are being forced to pull heavy carriages through chaotic traffic, loud noise, intense summer heat, and hazardous conditions. They are worked to exhaustion for the entertainment of tourists — treated as objects, not the sentient, sensitive beings they are.

These animals often collapse from dehydration, heatstroke, or injury. Many show signs of distress and fatigue, yet are still made to work. This isn’t Victorian England — it’s 2025. No animal should be used like this in a modern society.

We know better. So why are we still allowing it?

This is not just a matter of tradition — it’s a matter of cruelty. Horses don’t belong on tarmac roads surrounded by cars, noise, fumes and unpredictable crowds. They deserve fields, freedom, and safety — not metal bits in their mouths and blinders strapped to their heads to block out a world that terrifies them.

As a resident of Blackpool, I’m heartbroken and ashamed to see this happen in our town.

We need Blackpool Council to listen. We need them to put animal welfare above outdated tourist traps. It’s time to finally ban horse-drawn landaus from Blackpool’s roads.

Let’s replace this cruelty with compassion. Let’s send a clear message that Blackpool is a forward-thinking, humane seaside town — not one stuck in the past.

Please sign and share. Let’s be the voice they don’t have.
