The Issue

I believe a church should be a place of peace and safety, welcoming to everyone—not a place where both animals and homeless individuals are put at risk.  Please email via this link.

Recently, it was brought to my attention that Cameron Group Terminex, operating at the esteemed Christ Church Cathedral in Montreal, has been using unethical pest control methods. Specifically, illegal bromadiolone and body-gripping traps with teeth are in place. These hazardous methods are not only inhumane to animals but also pose serious risks to the city's homeless population sleeping nearby.

Bromadiolone, a highly potent rodenticide, is specifically banned in Montreal due to its dangerous impacts on the environment and non-target wildlife. Furthermore, the presence of body-gripping traps, which are often initially hidden and can suddenly close their teeth around unsuspecting creatures, is cruel.

These traps, currently visible outside of their broken boxes, are displaying a grim reality of animal neglect, as evidenced by the rotting animal inside one of these traps. This is not just a gross oversight, but a clear violation of the humane standards that a city like Montreal strives to uphold.

Christ Church Cathedral, as a cornerstone of the community, should lead by example and embrace ethical and cruelty-free pest control alternatives. Humans and animals deserve safe, humane treatment, and there are numerous effective, non-lethal methods available, such as live traps and relocation practices.

I urge the management of Christ Church Cathedral and the authorities in Montreal to take immediate action against the use of these cruel and illegal pest control methods. By switching to humane alternatives, the Cathedral can continue to uphold its role as a welcoming haven for all living creatures.

Please join me in advocating for the safety and dignity of both the vulnerable animals and humans who deserve shelter from harm. Sign this petition to ensure Christ Church Cathedral adopts humane pest control methods, setting a precedent for empathy and compassion in our community.
