Ban Harmful Food Additives in Virginia

The Issue

The state of Virginia is home to millions of people who consume food products daily, unaware of the potential harm they may be causing to their health. Four such harmful substances are Brominated Vegetable Oil (BVO), Propylparaben, Potassium Bromate, and Red No.3. These additives are commonly found in our food supply but have been linked to various health issues.

BVO is used in some citrus-flavored beverages and has been associated with memory loss and skin problems (FDA). Propylparaben is a preservative found in many processed foods and has been linked to hormone disruption (European Food Safety Authority). Potassium Bromate is used as a flour improver in bread-making but can potentially cause cancer (International Agency for Research on Cancer). Lastly, Red No.3 dye has been associated with thyroid tumors in animal studies (U.S National Library of Medicine).

We believe that the citizens of Virginia deserve better than this. We call upon the state government to ban these harmful additives from our food supply chain immediately. This action will protect consumers' health and uphold their right to safe food consumption.

Please sign this petition if you believe that Virginians should not be exposed to potentially harmful substances through their diet.
