While technological advancements have provided us with tools to enrich our work, the rise of generative AI in creating music and images makes a mockery of artists like myself and many others who rely on our unique, human creativity to make a living.

Generative AI technologies that produce music and images not only sideline human creators but also blur the lines between authentic artistic expression and machine-generated content. In the music industry alone, AI-generated compositions are increasingly indistinguishable from those created by humans. This raises concerns about authenticity, ownership, and the ethical implications of using AI systems trained on existing works by human creators. Is it fair that AI systems reap the benefits of learning from human brilliance without recognition or compensation for original creators?

Moreover, AI's ability to mimic a multitude of styles and forms derived from human artistry threatens to undermine the value of human creativity. Our individual styles and unique compositions are at risk of being replicated, shared, and even commercialized without our consent or financial benefit. The very essence of artistry—its human touch—is being commodified and diluted by algorithms.

It's crucial to establish clear and enforceable ethical frameworks for the use of AI in creative industries. Therefore, I urge the Senate Judiciary
Subcommittee on Intellectual Property to consider regulations that would:

1. Ban the use of generative AI for producing music and images or, at minimum, regulate that AI systems not be trained using human-created content without explicit permission and fair remuneration.
2. Implement protective legislation that safeguards the rights of artists and creators, ensuring that our intellectual property remains distinctly human.
3. Encourage transparency from tech companies about the processes and data sets used in training AI systems, with mandatory audits and assessments.

This is not an attempt to stifle technological progress, but a necessary measure to preserve the integrity of human creativity. By protecting the rights of existing and future artists, we secure a vital part of our culture and ensure that creativity remains an inherently human endeavor.
