Ban Fishing at Arrow Valley Lake to Protect Swans and Other Wildlife
The Issue
Last night, we experienced a heart-wrenching incident that has left us shocked and appalled. We found an extremely distressed young swan, visibly in pain and panic, tangled up in fishing wire with a hook lodged in his neck. Thanks to the timely intervention of Wychbold Swan Rescue, we managed to save the swan before it was too late.

This incident underscores a broader, urgent need to protect our swans from the dangers posed by fishing.

Our local lake is a haven for an array of wildlife, particularly swans, whose grace and beauty are emblematic of our community's natural heritage. Unfortunately, these majestic birds are under constant threat from irresponsible fishing practices.
The issue of wildlife, especially swans, becoming trapped or injured due to carelessly discarded fishing gear is deeply troubling. Such incidents not only cause immense suffering to the affected animals but also disrupt our local ecosystem, affecting the balance of our natural environment.
In light of this, we strongly urge our local council and the Arrow Valley Visitor Centre to impose an immediate ban on fishing at our beloved lake. This measure is crucial for the safety and well-being of our swan population, ensuring they can thrive and grace our waters without the looming threat of harm. Implementing a fishing ban is a proactive step towards preserving the natural beauty of Redditch's lakeside environment and demonstrating our community's commitment to respecting and protecting wildlife.
This issue is profoundly personal; it's about safeguarding the lives of these beautiful, graceful creatures and upholding our duty to respect and care for the nature around us. If you believe, as we do, that our swans deserve a safe, peaceful habitat free from harm, please lend your voice to this cause and sign our petition. Together, we can make a difference in protecting our swans and ensuring they remain a cherished part of our local ecosystem for generations to come.
